I did Anime Shogatsu in its first year back when the location was downtown Toronto, and attended every year afterward. Now it's at the JCCC. I met the founder in the first year, Zalmen, and he seemed very engaged and wanting to make the event better by asking for feedback at the end. The staff are nice and quite open to improving, as I've seen over the years. I like that this year they brought a catering company to the event since there is not much food in the surrounding area.
It's a very small one day con with events scattered around the venue. Its small scale makes it easy to look at everything. This isn't a high profit con, nor do I expect it to be. But as a local it is still better than I imagined. The table fee is very reasonable at about 50-100 dollars.
It's also one of the only anime-themed events in January which can be a good thing, or an unfortunate thing given that the last 2 years in a row had a blizzard on the day.
One thing I wish they improved is the application process. We get a payment page after being approved and the money goes to some name that isn't mentioned anywhere on the site. We also have no idea if the application is fcfs, juried or random.
Overall fun if you are local and don't have much else going on in the winter!

AA at Anime Shogatsu
Solid 2018 with a new location at the Japan Cultural center. Tables were affordable so I was able to make back the costs, it's a one day event. Good for new AA artists.
